Party Games is a thriller that will have your brain urging your eyes to read faster.
This was my first R.L. Stine book to read, and I can’t believe it took me so long to discover a genius writer suck as Stine. His storytelling ability had me hunched over, fingers ready to turn the page the moment I was done reading the last word on the page.
When Rachel is invited to Brendan Fear’s birthday party at his lake house on Fear Island, she’s warned by those closet to her to stay away from the Fear family. Rachel, having crushed on Brendan for years, is quick to ignore the warnings and looks forward to some time alone with Brendan.
The party quickly goes awry, once the yacht pilot has an accident and falls into the lake, sinking into the abyss. The guests are quickly whisked away with promises that he’ll be retrieved. With the sight of the pilot’s blood bubbling up to the surface of the water, Brendan does his best to keep his guest lighthearted by offering a party game.
A scavenger hunt.
Brendan’s lake house is filled with strange relics and just as many rumors of ghosts and otherworldly experiences. So, when Brendan’s party guests begin turning up dead, and the employees steal the yacht to escape, Rachel, Brendan, and the other party guests must find a way off the Island before they are picked off one by one.
But are the deaths some sick twist in Brendan’s game, or are they in more trouble than they realize?
This book doesn’t have a lot of depth. It is pure adrenaline, a story meant to entertain and thrill. And it hit its mark. If you haven’t read Stine before, or if you just want a fun and engaging story, I implore you to check out Party Games.
